Bauernhof Cavaliers was
founded in 1991 after we purchased our first Cavalier, Ch. Redthea
Augustus of Bauernhof in Oct. 1990 (When he was eight weeks old). Because of his pedigree (his grandfather was Eng. & Aust.
Ch. Amantra Pugwash), his breeder told us not to get him neutered until he
was seven months old., we sent his breeders (Jane & Jane Theader) his
picture and they told us we must show him. Not having had any
experience in dog showing, my groomer took him to a fun match locally and
he was reserve champion first time out. We then took him to the
Cavalier Club Specialty and he won his class at his first "real"
show! I showed him and neither one of us had any experience and we
had one class together. We were extremely lucky that we had a judge
who gave first place to the dog she thought was the best, rather than to
handlers/owners she already knows!
We waited until AKC
recognized the breed before we showed seriously. We were fortunate
that Bruce VanDeman likes our dogs enough to show them for us.
Chukker became and AKC Champion in 1996 at six years old. He
finished his Championships in less than three months and he was undefeated
at every show. Besides being good looking, Chukker has exceptional
movement, a wonderful temperament (he is affectionate, loyal &
patient), and a great personality, as well as being a great companion for
both my husband and me. All the breeding efforts at Bauernhof
Cavaliers is to breed dogs like him. We are extremely grateful that
U.K. breeders such as Ruth Mochrie of Downsbank Cavaliers in the U.K. and
more recently, Maxine Fox of Pamendna Cavaliers (U.K.) gave me the
opportunity to start my breeding program with their exceptional
bloodlines!
We try to breed dogs for
the show ring, that is why we usually sell older dogs instead of puppies
because we keep them until we know whether they are show prospects or
not. Sometimes, the difference between a show dog and a pet could be
as insignificant as a freckle in the wrong spot! |
